DESCRIPTION: Votive Buddhist Terracotta Tablet depicting Buddha image surrounded by stupas with the script below the image.
PERIOD: Early 12th century In 9.-13. century, Pagan was the capital of the Pugam Empire . At this time, over 10,000 Buddhist temples were built here, of which 2,200 have survived to the present day. Most of them are brick.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Pugan, Burma Bagan, formerly Pagan , or Pugam is an ancient city in Myanmar (Burma), near the Irrawaddy River , about 178 km southwest of the city of Mandalay .
