Kroo Basivichai is considered the most famous and powerful monk of Northern
Thailand. Phra Kroo Basivichai was a monk who lived in Chiangmai around
150 years ago. When Chiangmai was still an independent country, but was
beginning to be taken over by central Thailand (at that time Siam). Phra
Kroo Basivichai was very active at that time in trying to maintain Chiangmai
as an independent country and even now many citizens of Chiangmai feel
sad that they lost their independence to Thailand. Phra Kroo Basivichai
was a cornerstone of stability, teaching peace and calm and showing people
to see life in a new and different way. Through his teachings, he kept
the populace calm, and even now he still holds great sway in Thailand.
Since his sad passing, some images of him have been made in either statue

and their business will flourish. Images of Phra Kroo Basivichai are
extremely rare as they are very small in number, and were only ever made
